My VWD Lottery Experience.

I’ve just noticed that the counter at the top left of the blog has ticked over 250,000 unique visitors. I installed it a few months after I started this blog. It’s nice to know so many people have found their way here.

In that time,
13,387 spam comments have been caught by SpamKarma 2
257 legitimate comments
386 posts
and over 400 new members have been mentioned!

How did you find your way here?

I’ve searched and experimented but no matter what I looked for or tried to fudge, I couldn’t find a way to edit a pdf file with php.

I wanted to create a pdf file of an advertising flyer and give users the option of using their own web address and phone number in it by filling in an online form. There are pdf libraries out there but mainly for creating them on the fly which was no good to me but, today I found out that I could read an .rtf file and edit it then output it as a .doc file so now my members can download advertising templates with their own details and all they have to do is print them out and they’re ready to go!

My first custom document is my hotpocket flyer inspired by Robby’s own version, users visit the Custom Hot Pocket Flyer page and enter their web address and number, press submit and they’re given a link to download an MS Word document ready to print. It’s still in testing so I still have things to worry about like “what if the web address is longer than 20 characters?” and “how to clean up the directory of files so I don’t exceed webspace limits?”.

I have a good idea how to do the first one but I’ll need to thunk about the other but once those problems are solved I can install it permanently on the team portal.

Haha! success, I went away with a geek filled brain and did some more stuff, now I don’t have to manually insert new members into the bottom of the posts. They will appear at the top of the page now and all I have to do is visit a self made form and add each new member when I receive notification of them joining. yey!!

I have received a fair amount of feedback from my latest campaign and decided to add a FAQ and privacy statement to the Save Your Driving Licence page. Sometimes, it’s hard to give something away for free! maybe I should start charging 1 pound a go and put that money into more advertising…

I’ve already set other rotators that have the page in their lists to show only this page it’ll be major league speeding this next couple of weeks and when I get to send follow up messages we will be venturing on another campaign with a different product and do it all over again.

It looks like the latest email campaign is working! The email only went out this morning!

I’m really looking forward to this weekend, I’ve got some interesting coding to do and my latest email campaign is due to start, I’ve recoded the landing page so it randomizes between mine and Robby’s userid. It’s already got some subscribers and it seems the randomizer likes Robby’s number better than mine with a 60/40 split so far! It’s all good though, any that go into his team earn me 5% so I’m happy with that!

I am in the process of making some instructional videos on how to install a wordpress blog on owned hosting, Wordpress.com don’t seem to like lottery blogs so hosting your own does keep it yours and no one can take it down except you. I’ll be using Empire Hosting as the example because it has a very simple installation script that takes all the FTP and CHMOD worries away and replaces it with a “click here”.

I called a couple of new affiliates last night to give them a welcome call and let them know I’ll be putting their details into the affiliate email course autoresponder and one of them has already signed up a new member! within an hour of calling him. Well done Ian! Robby will be taking over their training seeing as I’m so busy lately (and seeing as he is so good at it). So team work is abundant around here!

The team continues to grow steadily even though I have been a little quiet this past couple of months, that’s the beauty of VWD - you can go to sleep and your team and income grows while you snore!

I’ve had a surprisingly good response to my latest email campaign. I was sent an offer by an email marketing company that I’ve used before, the offer was to send an email to 500 names for 20 quid. I haven’t really used them for a long time simply because the response to lottery related emails is so poor but I thought I would use my new mini-autoresponder page advertising a “Save Your Driving Licence” ebook which explains all the things you need to do if you’re caught speeding on UK roads.

Nearly 50% of the adult population of the UK play the lottery so if I could appeal to UK residents it’s a fair chance that 1 out of every 2 of them will be a qualified prospect for my lottery business. Who wouldn’t want to get off a speeding ticket?

So I sent out 500 emails to UK males and the past 2 days have seen my inbox go crazy with “a subscriber has joined…” messages!

This has been the best response to any email I’ve sent with this company, after just 2 days the click through rate has been over 40% and out of those more than 80% have entered their details to receive the ebook (and a couple other emails afterwards prompting them to watch the player movie or enter a free competition).

Over the next couple of weeks I will be watching my prospects page very closely and see how many click through to enter the free competition. If enough go in there I think I will do a MAJOR email campaign!

No, not the sci fi film but that wonderful phenomena of finding something or having something fortunate happen when you’re actually after something else entirely. I had the strange occurrence of finding exactly what I was looking for but in a completely different place.

In the previous posts I have been nearly miffed at losing all my emails and contacts, I sent an email to admin asking if they could resend the contact details but with hundreds in my genealogy it was a bit too much to ask so I set about finding some sort of backup and remembered that I’d spent an age waiting for an IR sync with my nokia phone when I had last played with my IR device.
I got nokia suite up and working and then spent an eternity waiting for it to transfer back the contacts and praying to all my gods that they would still contain the other data like email address and notes….while I was waiting I picked up my PDA that sits next to the monitor, I haven’t used it in ages but it still has a copy of Bejeweled2 on there which eats up waiting time nicely.

Played some games and a beep later, the contacts had finished transferring. How many?

LOL, it seems it only put the phones’ new contacts into the pc. bah

Before I jumped nude out of the window in a kamikaze skin leap I pressed the contacts button on the pda and lo-and-behold there art mine contacts!! All this time my PDA was sitting in it’s cradle it was silently monitoring my outlook contacts folder and grabbing any new piece of information. EVERY contact was there and included notes and reminders. I switched it on in the cradle and the familiar “boopleebeep” happened and next thing I know, a new folder has appeared in Outlook with EVERY message and EVERY subfolder.
