This blog is not being updated any longer!
I’ve made a new blog that can take all my ramblings and affiliate notices, it has some code and wordpress widgets on there too!
please visit
I made a widget! It shows the last 5 sites that I gave a thumbs up to with Stumbleupon.
I’ve been at it for a while and ended up re-writing the code completely, now it shows 5 icons that are clickable to the last 5 stumbles I made, four different icons; page, image, quicktime and flash file.
here’s what it looks like in the sidebar..

and the options….

can anyone out there test it for me on a wordpress that supports widgets? I’ve got it working on a 2.2 installation of WP, leave a message on the comments if you’d like to try it…

You ever spend an inordinate amount of time on a domain site looking for a ‘killer’ domain name? normally, I choose one based on the product or site I want to promote, simple enough but, this time, I want a domain for my new online presence which will encompass all my online money makery things and also a place to put all the other stuff that I want to post about but can’t really slip in here.
I’ve been doing a lot of stumbling (stumbleupon.com) lately and some of the really good blogs that I’ve seen have their own domain name so I thought that I’d choose one for when this blog gets it’s hosting killed next month.
How hard is it to choose a bloody name that isn’t already gone? I tried a few that seemed nice but the closest I got was all available except the .com . grrr. Onias made a post recently at Daily Webbers about how people would automatically go to the .com of a site if they heard someone tell them “I saw a good post at daily webbers the other day”.
So, I was trying to think of a name that would be easily remembered and .com’able, I did find that IdontSing.com was available, but I don’t think that describes what will be on the new site, I ended up with ..

FiddyP.com and FiddyP.co.uk
“Get Hits or Die Tryin”
hehe, what do you think?
I like it, it sort of says it’s a UK site even though the .com is there and it’s slightly tongue in cheek so easy to remember, vague enough that I can put anything on there and it could have a sub theme of seeing how many hits it gets as it grows.
now off to personalize a new wordpress theme to make it mine, I’ve been learning Ajax recently so I have some fun things to try on the sidebar. I was even thinking of making my own wordpress plugin so I could quickly add a link to a site I find interesting while I’m on the actual site, kind of like the bookmarklet that WP had in version 1.0
oh, I have finished my dental treatment (I hope). more to come on that with a big fat review of my “the most awesomest dentist evah” who fixed me teef….
I see that 2 year hosting I bought for the blog and domain is due for renewal, rather than renew, I’m going to transfer to my own hosting company hosting. I think it’s time for a new blog look too, calling this place “my vwd lottery experience” limits me a little on what I can post about.
I’ve tried making another blog in parallel to this with a wider subject range but I’ve found that it’s hard to write more than one blog with the amount of extra-curricula jobs I’ve been doing so either the new one or this one suffer. I’ve got uVme starting soon too so that’s going to want some attention on a blog, plus I’ve been learning all sorts of cool skills this year that might be profitable to share.
I might be able to transfer the posts from here to the new place without too much trouble, mainly as an archive really. The new place will be a bit more web 2.0 (bah, hate that term!) and will have a cleaner look, this place has grown organically over the past two years and I think it’s a little complex to navigate. I’ve been doing some heatmaps testing and that has helped me decide what will go where on the new template.
I had a fantastic idea for an auto-income generator site today, the name is available and I’ve certainly got the content to go in it. trouble is, time! I need at least 7 full days to set it up and write the content, once it’s set though, I can leave it to take care of the payment taking and product delivery and do some magic to promote it. It’s got a really nice hook and I’m sure the little bit of controversy it will cause will only do me good in terms of exposure…. hmmm, time for a holiday? ![]()
Have you noticed the little random dots in a square on the left side of this blog?.. it’s called a data matrix barcode. I have a feeling that it might be something we see more and more of in publications and advertising… but first…how I found out about them..
Newer phones like the Nokia N95 and others have a built in bar code scanner (for N95 it’s in applications/office/barcode reader). When I first stumbled upon this application on my ritual “fiddle with a new phone before you’ve fully charged the battery for the first time” I saw it labelled as “Barcode Reader”. ACE! I thought, and I tried to find the first barcode I could and scan it in. After much minutes (ok ok, after much hours) I decided it didn’t work. No matter how I held the Coke can, it wouldn’t read it.
I gave up thinking it must have been the curvature of the can…
later that day I noticed a small square sticker on a PCI card I was changing, hmmm, “tis this one of which I seek ?” I thought, I recalled seeing an episode of Tomorrow’s World on the BBC showing something that could encode a sample of music or picture within random style dots, good enough so that a fax would be able to send it. It looked similar..
I wonder if…. I whipped out my now charged phone and started the barcode reader, less minutes passed and “pflink..” the phone said and showed me some digits and…. a web link! clickable within the phone haha! success!
I then ran the battery down scanning as many codes as I could find on my drawer of sad extension cards. There’s an art to moving your phone closer until the software recognizes the barcode. Just get it in the frame onscreen and move the phone slowly forwards towards the picture and it will pflink when you get it…
I searched and found a cool site that lets you create your own data matrix picture for your own message. You can fit quite a lot in a small square! even more if you stack the squares. That’s how I created the one on the sidebar. I then decided to print them out to see what they looked like, might be nice to make a few and place them in places where people mill about (bus stop, tube train, doctors surgery etc). Geek Graffiti that geeks could appreciate!

I think if there’s anyone out there that likes gimmicks on their phones and knows what a barcode reader is and what to look for then if they see one of these datamatrix barcodes while they are out or on the underground or reading a magazine they are bound to scan it in. I know I would! The cool thing is, you can put web addresses or phone numbers and they get recognized by the phone and are clickable or phonable once scanned!
I also put one on a flyer I have and printed it out thinking it would be a nice way for someone who sees a poster to take the web address with them on their phone without having to type it in. “scan for address” underneath it make perfect sense if you know what they are.
I was almost ready to print out a gazillion on white stickers ready to ahem, distribute! Problem is, they are awfully fiddly to scan properly and if they’re surrounded by other colours, it’s even harder to get them to scan. until….

..I found a better site! these types of datamatrix codes are of a type called QR Codes and they scan much better, the extra squares must help the phone recognize the parity bits or whatever they’re called. Try it yourself if you have a phone that can do it.
I like this barcode site because the page updates the barcode while you type but you have to do a screen capture to save the image (press alt+prt scr to take a snapshot of the active window and put it on the clipboard ready to ctrl+v paste it into MS Paint or photoshop).
I’m going to print a few hundred of these suckers and start leaving them stuck in places, I wonder how many clicks it will get??
I think when more people get this kind of technology on their phones, this will start to appear in magazines and adverts so people can scan in a web address or phone number ready to use later.. .either that or it will die a death and be replaced by some other less fiddley way of transmitting data from hard copy ![]()

I finally got my Singapore leads, I’m quite impressed with the level of details for these leads. Full phone numbers, email and answers to important questions like “how much do you have as your budget?”, “how much do you expect to earn” etc etc.
Plus, they have best time to call on there too so I’ll hopefully be able to contact at least 5 each day and order some Hong Kong leads on Wednesday.
I think I will speak to the person, arrange to send them some information or use the “invite a friend” function of the uVme site, when I see they sign up then I can contact them again to see if they want some leads to process straight away and if they do, send them from my own bought list and see how they do with them. If they can sign them up then I have a channel to put more leads through and know that they will be taken care of.
This way, I only need 3 people who can handle supporting their team, any questions they can’t answer can be sent to me and I’ll answer them myself. This is easy enough to duplicate and will be what I go over when I train the new joiners…
uVme is going to be a massive thing, I’ve been researching the different parts of the system, IM, Blogs, Viral, Instant payment, Live Genealogy and so on, it seems uVme has taken all the best bits from other pay plans and incentive rewards and combined them with a product that lends itself perfectly to word of mouth growth.
I’ve see how Facebook, bebo and King.com have grown, imagine how fast they would grow if people got PAID when people they introduced played a certain amount? LOADS!!
If you are from Singapore and have a network of friends and contacts, join uVme and promote it to them and see how many free joiners you can get! contact me if you get 100 and I’ll pay for you to join so you wont even have to lay out ANY MONEY and you could have business ready to go with all my support and commission to back you up….
OK! the first campaign to start will be Singapore, I’ve ordered 100 leads with full details and will be calling them this week to promote uVme. I’m going to contact my Singapore members and ask them if they want to be part of the support contact for these leads.
(a) In exchange for being my Singapore support contact, they will get 25% share of the Singapore leads that signup up going through their link and up to 75% of the signups made by me from Singapore
OR
(b) If they signup to the uVme site with their own details (it’s free while we’re in pre-launch), then, if they can attract 150 people into their genealogy (it’s free for them too) with at least 50 personally sponsored then it will be worth my while funding their business which means I pay their initial joining fee when the system launches and cover their first months subscription!
This way, if they have experience in MLM or networking then they will definitely see the benefit of getting a percentage of an uplines signups, if they don’t have the money for an MLM but they have a blog or list of contacts they can promote to then they could use option (b). Just promote to their lists/blogs for 2 months and could very well have a fully paid up business in one of most advanced and supported MLM businesses in the world. (seriously!, I was at the leaders meeting and saw for myself)
My steps will be this:-
1. phone the leads, introduce with just a few sentences (too long and they switch off)
2. send the lead the information about the uVme site, stress that it’s free to join and there’s no obligation
3. follow up the lead with another call to make sure they received the information and offer them some tips on how to get going
4. stay in contact and monitor their signup progress
continuing plans…
all leads will go into my newsletter software and sent updates direct from me about how others are doing so even if they aren’t available on the phone, they can be sent information about the uVme opportunity.
a manual genealogy spreadsheet so I can keep track of how everyone is doing and see who can get given more leads from my own list.
once I have 10 front line personally sponosored, I will start giving leads and signups to those that have personally sponsored at least one themselves. I’ll also filter some through existing members in my team.
I’ll give this a week and parallel run another for Hong Kong…. Gay Ho! gnaw sik gong siu-siu gwong dung wah ![]()
