Just saw this article on a blog I saw on BE. It makes sense, too many budding affiliates just place their members website URL willy nilly without asking themselves ,”What do I want someone to do when they read this?”. Even if it’s in an email signature you must put at least a small bit of explanation in there.
When giving out cards or leaflets make sure you say ,”Take a look at the website, go to the address on the card” or something similar. When I first started giving out cards I would be scared to even say anything I was just grateful they had took it and not shook their head and tried to walk through me!! It sounds silly now but it happens to all of us.
When carding cars (putting your VWD card in the little bit of rubber at the bottom of the drivers side window):
- Don’t be afraid to approach a car with someone sitting in it.
I used to steer well clear even missing out the car in front and behind until I took the plunge and got eye contact with the person in the drivers seat and offered them the card, he took it and mentioned he’d wondered what I was advertising when he saw me doing the cars in his rear-view mirror
- Don’t miss cars because they look old or cheap!
It’s a fact that most people have a crappy or cheap car, most people also play the lottery.
- Don’t damage the car!!
Obvious I know but worth remembering.
- If you see a weathered wet card from a previous carding outing, remove it and either throw it away or replace it with a new one
- Don’t use labels printed on normal paper, the ink will run if it rains and will look buggery poo when someone picks it up
- Alternate your streets, don’t ‘bash’ the same cars again and again every day. (hard copy spam!)
It is a good idea though, to go back after a few days or one week and do repeats. Some of my own personal carding signups haven’t come until the signup saw their third or fourth card.
- Do look for streets with unrestricted parking near office blocks
This is especially useful in cities but works in smaller boroughs. Anywhere there’s a high street there’ll be some back streets that will have no yellow lines or residents permit only spaces, these streets will be filled with the cars of people who work a short walk away and are perfect for those “tired of the 9-5?” or “Would an extra £200 be nice in your pay packet this month?” type of marketing.
- Do make a plan or set a target amount of cards to give out each week and write it down!
Writing it down and putting it somewhere I would see it all the time really helped me, it shamed me into doing it at the beginning and after it started to work, it encouraged me when I saw that I had reached target without complaining or finding an excuse to stay in!
- Don’t give up!
This type of marketing takes a few weeks before you see results (in my experience), don’t do it for two weeks and then give up because you haven’t got a signup yet. A good start is fifty cards (more if you can) three times a week for two months. 50×3x8=1200 cards.
- Do other types of marketing too.
You can’t rely on just one method of marketing, do something different like leafleting on the days you don’t do carding. If for some reason you can’t do carding on a day you have planned then try something that you can do like phoning a prospect or send someone you know an email about the business.
= do something!!
That will do it for today, remember Gigi’s advice - a Daily Method of Operation means doing something every day, different things on different days and even different things on the same day!
Good luck with your efforts.

That Video Lotery Stuff is dangerous. You have to know when to call it quits. I had a roomate that used to work hard all week and then blow his money on online poker. At least he hit the jackpot a couple times!

hehe, no Video Lottery for me!! I prefer to play the “same small cost every month” game every time, it’s even better now as I get 7 lines in the UK and Euro for free because I have enough members signed up under me!.
I’ve just clicked your link and realised I’ve been there before, great blog Mike!
