Well, I am now ready to tell you about the IG247 conference, 700 tickets sold out in 4 days and I saw why!
There was quite a buzz about the Hilton Metropole hotel before the event, Tom Brodie had his DB9 parked outside with T1 VWD as his number plate, lol!
Registration was at 10am with the event due to start at 11am and what a bottle neck the reception area turned out to be, lots of folk milling around chomping at the bitt to get in. We did get in and were all seated without too much hassle. What a big room it was, the stage was set up nicely with a couple of auto-cue glass stands in front of the dias (how professional!).
Mark Davies was hosting the conference and I must say, it was his best performance yet. Professional, not too “read the autocue robotically” like many that use them! He first gave us a review of the Vegas promotion and showed some previously unseen clips from the actual event.
Tom and Len came on stage to recognise what was called “Brodies 11″ :-), all top recruiters and team leaders, each one got a nice glass framed poster in the style of the Oceans eleven movie and got to give us all a little “how we got here” speech which was good from everyone, especially Maureen Bell who was in 1st place for the Vegas promotion.
Next was our 6 month update to let us know that we received the HitWise top 10 award which is a reasonably prestigious award to get (and difficult to achieve), we were told about the new servers put in to be ready for the explosion in members, apparently they can upgrade the bandwidth and load simply by adding another server so no problems for high traffic then!
We also learned of VWD’s membership to Habeas which will certainly decrease the amount of promotional emails that get stopped by spam bots and ISP filters.
We saw the dramatic conversion rate of grab a grand prospects and heard how the new version of it will be even more effective as a viral tool because now they will offer the player the chance to win another 5000 quid by recommending 3 of their friends to play it.
Ian Orford came up and did a wonderful piece about the grab a grand conversion rate (6%!!) and gave us some very useful ways of finding people to talk to about our opportunity by searching Google for our local town or borough name and lo and behold - thousands of returns all about people or businesses in that area. brill! well done Ian, not an autocue in site!
Tom came back up to explain a little about skill gaming and how it isn’t classed as gambling so it can be advertised anywhere and won’t be stopped by USA banks for payment. Advertise anywhere to anyone (over 16) awesome!
The secretary of The Lotteries Council came up and gave us a humorous piece on how the gaming law has changed and all the books that have been written by the houses of parliament and independent bodies (and the books that were written to explain the first books!)
We also met VWD’s chief information officer, an old friend of Toms (he had a database background), he’s been in charge of the team that writes all the code that runs the site. He said if he had to write it all again from scratch it would have taken him at least a year (and that’s with a strong team working with him). Hundreds of thousands of lines of code, heaven!
Then we had a break where we could buy coffee and sandwiches from Hilton at excruciating prices, luckily I’ve been to a few conferences and knew to bring my own along with some crisps and a drink! We had a whole hour this time which was much better than the 20 minutes they usually do, time for a proper chat and mingle (or mostly boasting about our own efforts to anyone that will listen!)
Second session came around and time to recognise all those that got to their next level, group affiliates, senior affiliates and executive affiliates all got to stand up and get applauded while the latest controllers and group directors got to come up on stage and give a little bit about how they did it. nice
Then the big news, the new game!!….
It’s called the e-lotbidder and you can win some fantastic prizes by using your phone or using your pc on the internet, you can win the prize by being the lowest unique bidder for it by the time the competition ends (August).
The best bit is, the first bid is free and there is an immediate response from the site to tell you if your bid was unique (and how many available unique bids are available below it) and then offers the player to bid again but this time for a fee and we get paid commission on that. awesome because every person that registers to play will go into our prospector ready to receive promotional emails now and again.
Another advantage of it is, you can play the moment you see it advertised because you are able to use SMS to enter, just send “car 69603x 1.34″ to 80039 (change 69603x to your affiliate number and 1.34 to your bid). That results in a message being sent back telling you the uniqueness (or not) of your bid and again, how many uniques are below it. This also pays commission but not as much seeing as how much the actual networks skim off the top for the service (only costs them pennies for normal cross network sms’s so I don’t see why they need so much just because it’s a premium message).
The thing with this is great, you can be handing out flyers and be earning money straight away, passive advertising will be great on trains and public transport - anyone with a mobile can enter their first bid for free so that time between stops will certainly get a few entries!!
We got told about all the new advertising material too which was really really welcome, new things like scratch cards for advertising the new grab a grand and elotbidder games. e-flyers that can be sent by email from the back office to all our prospects. New drinks mats with spaces for someone to put their numbers on before they take them home (being doing this myself for months!) and some very nice rich media banners and buttons that will sure be useful on blogs and other homepages.
Gigi fields came up at the end to give us all one of her patented performances, good work Gigi!
I had to leave a few minutes early but I did manage to chat up a couple people at the (expensive!) parking ticket machine and give them a free entry card! oh and I managed to snag a handful of the new promotional A5 flyers too, already they have been put in restaurant windows and newsagents!.
All in all, B.E.S.T C.O.N.F.E.R.E.N.C.E E.V.E.R
and I met Mark on the way out and he knew this blog so I’m doing something right!
